The Joyous Benefits of Soy Foods

Soy, coming from the soybean or soya bean, is a tasty and popular legume. Originating in Southeast Asia to be consumed as part of a traditional diet in many countries, soy is packed with delicious plant-based protein and there are many ways to use it. You can opt for your traditional tofu or tempeh (fermented soy) or branch out by using it as an egg or meat alternative (think tofu scramble or veggie burgers).
Nutrient Profile of Soy
Soy and foods made from soy are rich in several nutrients. Soy is abundant in B vitamins, fiber, potassium, magnesium, and protein! Soy is considered to be a complete or high-quality protein, meaning it provides all of the essential amino acids your body needs to feel its best. In fact, the only two plant-based foods that are considered to be high-quality proteins are soy and quinoa. Examples of one serving of soy are 1/3 cup tofu, 1 cup soy milk, or ½ cup edamame (soybeans in the pod).
What About Estrogen?
A common concern people have about soy is the estrogen content. Since soy is a plant, the estrogen it contains is known as phytoestrogen. Phytoestrogen contains isoflavones, which are very strong antioxidants. In other words, it helps protect your cells against damage. Research studies have shown that the phytoestrogen in soy can be protective against some chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and breast cancer.
There are so many options! How do I know what to eat?
Let's explore the choices available to you at the supermarket and the delicious ways you can include them in your daily menu.
Tofu
Tofu is processed soybean curd and the versatility of this food is amazing! While it tastes a little bland when eaten on its own, tofu can become a tasty addition to meals or desserts when mixed with other flavorful foods. There are four different varieties of tofu, each with their own special cooking characteristics. These varieties include silken, soft, firm, and extra firm.
Silken tofu is creamy in texture and can be used in:
  • Dressings: Use it as a substitute for mayonnaise or sour cream by mixing it with a dried onion soup or ranch dressing mix.
  • Dips / Sauces: Use it instead of cream for a low-fat Alfredo Sauce.
  • Desserts: Use it to make a pie filling, custard, or cheesecake. Chocolate icing could be made with silken tofu by mixing with a chocolate instant pudding mix.
  • Baked Dishes, Waffles and Pancake Batters: Replace the eggs in these recipes with silken tofu.
Soft tofu is slightly firmer than silken tofu, but is still moist. Some ideas for using soft tofu are:
  • Toss into a pasta dish in place of soft Italian cheeses.
  • Mash and blend with Italian herbs and spices and use it to stuff large shells. Pour your favorite sauce on top and bake.
  • Make a shake by blending it with mixed fruit and low-fat milk and top with dry cereal.
Firm and extra-firm tofu hold their shape and are good for:
  • Salads: Make an imitation egg salad by cutting the soy into small pieces and adding celery, onion, black pepper, low-fat mayonnaise, and a little mustard.
  • Dinners: Try using it in place of chicken in a stir fry or a fajita dish; or grill with some vegetables and make a shish-ka-bob.
Other Soy Products
Tempeh
Tempeh is made of fermented soybeans and is smoky in flavor with a chewy texture. It can be marinated in a variety of sauces such as BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, or soy sauce and put on the grill or the oven. You could also cut it into bite-size pieces and mix it into casseroles, salads, chili, or soup. A grilled tempeh, cheese, and tomato sandwich is a great example of how to use tempeh.
Soymilk
Soymilk is the milk of the soybean and can be used just like dairy milk. You can try using it to make pudding, hot chocolate, and cream soups. Pour on top of your favorite cereal, use it in your morning bowl of oatmeal, or just enjoy a nice, tall cold glass. Soymilk is sold as different versions including original, sweetened, unsweetened, vanilla, low-fat, and non-fat.
Soy Protein
Soy protein has similar characteristics to meat. It can be flavored to mimic chicken, beef, and other meats. Some examples are vegetable burgers, soy hotdogs, soy deli slices, and meatless meat.
Soybeans
Add canned soybeans to any recipe. Experiment with edamame (a green soybean in the shell) by adding it to any vegetable dish, such as fried rice. They are typically packaged and sold frozen.
Soy Flour
Soy flour is made from roasted soybeans and is ground into flour. You can replace ¼ of the total flour in a recipe with soy flour to bake muffins, cookies, and cakes.
Miso
Miso is a fermented food product that can add a cheesy flavor to whatever dish it's added to. You can use miso in soups, salad dressings, marinades, or stir-frys.
Incorporating soy into your meals can be tasty, easy, and fun all the while enjoying the nutritional health benefits! Take your time to experiment with different products and different flavors in order to discover what you like best. If you don't know where to begin, try adjusting some of your favorite recipes to be centered around soy. For example, instead of making beef tacos for dinner try tofu tacos! There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to food; simply listen to your body and enjoy!

3 Simple and Scientific Ways to Lose Weight

If you want to lose a lot of excess fat, you can try a lot of ways. However, the problem is that most of the ways will leave you unsatisfied and hungry. The three simple methods that we are going to talk about in this article will help you curb your appetite, lose weight and improve your metabolic health. Read on to know more.
1. Reduces your Intake of Sugars and Starches
First of all, what you need to do is reduce your intake of sugars and starches. This will help you curb your hunger and you won't have a lot of calories. In this case, your body will burn fat instead of carbs in order to produce energy.
Another great benefit of reducing your carb intake is that it will help you reduce your insulin levels. And this will help your kidneys get rid of the excess water and sodium, which will reduce bloating and water gain. By eating this way, you may be able to shed up to 10 pounds during the first 7 days.
2. Eat Fat, Veggies and Protein
Make sure the meals you eat include a good source of protein, low-carb veggies and fat. If you set this meal plan, you can easily reduce your carb intake to as low as 20 grams per day. Some good sources of protein include beef, lamb, pork, chicken, fish, and whole eggs. There is no need to mention that eating a lot of protein is a great idea.
With high-protein diets, you can curb your cravings by up to 60%. As a result, you won't have a strong desire to eat a lot. As far as losing weight is concerned, protein is on top of the list of nutrients.
Given below is a list of some low-carb veggies:
  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce
  • Swiss chard
  • Cabbage
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Kale
  • Tomatoes
  • Spinach
  • Cauliflower
  • Broccoli
  • Fat Sources
Given below are some good source of fat:
  • Butter
  • Avocado oil
  • Coconut
  • Olive oil
3. Hit the gym three times a Week
With this meal plan, you don't have to exercise in order to shed weight. However, it's recommended that you do some exercise. Ideally, you may want to exercise at least 3 times per week. You can also hit the gym and lift some weights.
At the gym, you may want to follow the guidelines of a trainer, especially if you are new. Lifting weights will help you burn a lot of calories in addition to maintain your metabolic rate. So, there won't be any side effects.
According to many studies done on low-carb diets, you can gain some muscle mass while shedding significant body fat. And this is what many people want.
If you can't lift weights, you may do some cardio workouts, such as swimming, cycling, running, jogging and walking, just to name a few.
Long story short, if you are looking for some easy ways of losing weight fast, we suggest that you check out these three methods. Hopefully, these methods will help you achieve your goals.
If you are looking for an easy way of losing weight, you can try out Bronkaid for weight loss.

Top 3 Weight Loss Pitfalls

You may think you are doing everything right and still your weight loss efforts are stalled, or worse, you find the scale going in the wrong direction! Maybe you successfully lost weight, but now the number on the scale is creeping back up. What's going on here? Well there are a few common pitfalls people tend to slip into without realizing they are sabotaging their efforts. Here are the 3 most common:
1. Skimping on Protein. Starting your day with a complete protein will increase chemicals in the brain that not only improve sleep but also improve your mood due to their tryptophan content. This amino acid is a precursor to serotonin the feel-good hormone that keeps you feeling happy and motivated. Serotonin becomes melatonin, which helps you sleep at night. Fewer than 6 hours of sleep per day is associated with low-grade chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, increased risk for obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Sleep is critical for maintaining healthy weight and protein is important for restful sleep. Adequate protein in the morning blunts appetite throughout the day and studies showed starting the day with clean protein instead of carbs can reduce risk of fatigue by up to 75% for 6 hours and double your energy within 30 minutes! (A better workout!) One study found women who included protein at breakfast lost weight 65% faster.
2. Doing the same workout day in and day out. When you follow a consistent exercise program, your body gets more efficient and you no longer burn as many calories. You either have to increase the intensity or change your routine regularly if you want to maintain your weight loss. Your body is Intelligently created and when you do the same 3 miles on the treadmill or the same kettle bell workout every day, your body adapts. Just vary your routine - the intensity, number of reps, speed, and even the specific exercises every few weeks to keep your body surprised and burning the maximum number of calories. It is one of my recommendations in my book, Today is Still the Day.
3. Not Drinking Water. Don't get so caught up in eating healthy foods that you overlook drinking adequate water. Staying hydrated reduces hunger, increases the number of calories you burn and improves your body's ability to burn body fat for energy. Drinking 16 oz. 15-30 minutes before meals boosts metabolism 24-30% over the next hour to 1.5 hours.
My basic recommendation is one half your body weight in ounces and including ¼ tsp. of natural, unprocessed salt for every 32 oz.
Are any of these pitfalls hindering your efforts?

The 6 Best Breakfast Options to Lose Weight the Healthy Way

Why Keto Diet Is Bad Long Term

In order to understand why the Keto Diet is bad long-term, you need to understand how the Ketogenic Diet works in the first place. A Keto Diet is one which is very low on carbohydrates, which is one of the main sources of energy for the body.
During digestion, the body breaks down foods rich in carbohydrates and produces glucose, which is used as the main fuel source for energy to run the body. When the body is deprived of carbohydrates, it switches its fuel source from glucose to fat and ketones. This stage is known as ketosis, where the body relies on fat and ketones as its main fuel source for energy. The body goes into this state usually within 3 or 4 days after you start the diet.
This switch in diet is normally accompanied by various symptoms such as irritability, headache, concentration problems, dizziness, bad breath, stomach pains, difficulty sleeping, constipation, confusion and many others. For this reason, these symptoms are also called the Keto Flu.
Normally, the symptoms of the keto Flu subside within a week, and the body begins to lose weight. The weight loss can often be quite visible and dramatic. Most people could be very happy to see the diet working after all. But this can come with some negative effects that can be bad or even dangerous to your health.
You need to understand that your body needs a balanced diet for healthy living. As soon as you start deriving your body of certain kinds of otherwise healthy foods, there is an imbalance created in your system that can give rise to nutrient deficiencies. If your body continues to experience nutrient deficiency on a long-term basis, it can pose a number of risks to your general well-being.
Nutrient deficiencies can result in dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which is quite well-documented. A Ketogenic Diet also tends to be low in fiber and minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins A, B and B6. Therefore, you need to increase your water intake. You would also need to consult your physician for appropriate supplementation to help avoid a long list of health conditions that can accompany nutrient deficiency.
But by far, the biggest problem with this form of diet is sustainability. When you deprive your body of your favorite foods, your body might begin to increase cravings, forcing you to give up your diet. And when you go back to eating normally once again, the rebound weight gain could be dramatic as well. This could be accompanied by side effects again, as your body begins to readjust back to glucose as its main fuel source for energy.
For all these reasons, the Keto Diet cannot be used as a long-term solution for weight loss. If you wish to lose weight in a hurry for the short term, and are ready to go through uncomfortable symptoms, then perhaps you can try this solution. But it could be a bad idea to go for this lifestyle as a permanent and long term solution for losing weight.
A better way to lose weight is to go for a more wholesome and multi-pronged approach. Click here to watch this short presentation on how to lose weight the easy way, and also learn more about why Keto Diet's Bad Long Term.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Summary

ion

Being Healthy: Easier Said Than Done!

There are five main things you need to do to be at your best health. The first one is to Eat Right. Number two is to Exercise. Three is to get proper Rest or Sleep. Number four is to Manage Stress. Number five is that you need to get your Spine Checked.
Number one is to eat right. It means to try to eat as healthy as much as you can. It also means to avoid bad food and drink and skip sugars and sweets. This also includes drinking more liquid or drinking more water. Your body is 60% water (H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158); we need to be drinking about 8 cups a day.
You need to make sure to get your nutrients so your body can function like it's supposed to. You want to eat good and drink a good amount of water because the body needs the elements from these to do the tasks it must.
We also must exercise. Movement is very important for the body. "Motion is life" is often said. Exercise doesn't actually mean going to the gym every day, but just getting off the couch for some. If you can't make it to a gym, walk laps in your house or step outside and go for a stroll.
Third is sleep or rest. Your body has a lot of functions when you're at rest. It performs much healing when you are sleeping. Poor sleep habits can stress your body. I like to use my <a href="http://www.arc4life.com">traction pillow</a> when I sleep because not only will it help me sleep but also put my spine in alignment.
We also have to manage stress. High stress levels cause problems for the body. Whether it's more mental or physical, it can hinder the body processes.
Last, get your spine checked. Our spine holds our nervous system think about us bringing score spinal cord to the central nervous system It is so important it's encased in bone.
In addition, try not to put yourself in harms way; don't do activities where there is a good chance you can get hurt or you could injure your spine. And get adjusted; it takes just minutes but adds days to your life.
Do all these things to be 100% healthy. A good contoured pillow is a step in the right direction. With the Arc4life Traction Neck Pillow you align your spine while getting a good night's sleep.

Supplements and Your Health

A lot of people these days are trying to make their health better. No matter where you turn, from TV to newspapers, you'll see stories about people and how bad their health actually is. Even though there are many different companies out there that offer vitamins and supplements and claim that they will change your healthy, you'll need to research what they offer and sure that you aren't just wasting your money.

If you are looking to improve your health, you'll need to look at many different vitamin supplements to find which ones are the best for you. You should look at everything available, and not just try a few to see what happens. Dieting is the ideal place to start, as it can make the most improvements on your health. Dieting can change your body, and make you feel a lot better as well.

These days, a lot of people eat way too much sweets and sugar, choosing refined products over healthy food. Even though it isn't a bad thing to enjoy sweets and chocolate, you should never make a habit out of it. You can still enjoy your favorite foods as well, although you should be looking at the healthy benefits of food as well and think of everything as a whole.

If you include healthy foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruit into your diet, you'll be eating healthy. Protein is also beneficial to your health, as it promotes the growth of your muscle. Those of you, who are serious about eating healthy but are unsure where to start, should contact a nutritionist. They will be able to tell you where to start, and how to achieve a healthy diet that will chance your life.

Even though you may be eating healthy or trying to eat healthy, you'll probably find yourself wondering about vitamins and supplements and how much of an impact they have on your diet. Dieticians are ideal to consult with these types of questions, as they can answer any questions relating to vitamins that you have. They can also tell you which supplements are ideal to your health, and which ones you should include in your diet.

Different people will have different needs and requirements, making it essential to get advice from a qualified professional. If you get the advice from a professional, you'll know what you can add to your diet. If you try to do it all yourself without the advice of a professional, you can end up not getting enough in your diet, or you could end up taking something that you shouldn't be taken.

Exercise is also important to your diet and your health. Although supplements and vitamins will go a long way, exercise will do a lot for your body. If you exercise on a regular basis, and take the right supplements and vitamins with your diet, you'll notice that you have more energy and you feel better than you ever have in your life.

Before you start with your new diet or rush out and buy your new vitamin supplements, you should always check with your doctor first to see if he has any recommendations. You should also tell him what type of exercise you are planning on doing, and see if there are any complications with your health. Getting a healthy lifestyle is always a great thing, although you should always consult with your doctor. This way, you'll know the best way to start and how to go about getting in the best shape of your life.

Free Radicals: Destructive Scavengers and the Vital Role Antioxidants Play

Several years ago, it was all over the news. Free radicals were damaging - we all had them, and antioxidants were the solution. But what role really do free radicals play in damaging the body, and how are we supposed to best get rid of them? How do antioxidants work and what is the best way of adding them to our diet?

24 hours a day, while the body is constantly working, cells are metabolizing and creating energy as they carry out their tasks. This natural process results in free radicals, the same way driving to work in your car creates exhaust fumes. Some free radicals are natural byproducts of the ongoing workings of the body. Some are from environmental factors, such as pollution, radiation, and cigarette smoke.

A free radical is simply a molecule that is missing an electron. As soon as a molecule loses one of its attached electrons, it becomes unstable and seeks to re-stabilize itself by stealing an electron from the nearest molecule. This causes the attacked molecule to then become a free radical, and starts a chain reaction. Ultimately as the process continues this can lead to cell damage.

Free radicals become extremely damaging to the body as they steal electrons from your cells. They begin to spread like a wildfire through the years if your body does not have enough antioxidants to keep them in check. They can attack cell walls, get inside the cell, and cause damage to the DNA. This leads to cancer. Cancer is defined as a degenerative stress condition, and we can understand this better when we understand the role free radicals play.

The brain is the most active part of the body. It uses the most energy, and therefore is subject to bombardment with the most free radicals. The significance of this is not only that we feel negative effects in our mind - such as feeling tired and muddled - but also because brain is very important in its control of so many of the vital workings of our bodies.

When a free radical attacks, it can get into the cell and cause the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, to die or cease to function fully. This can disrupt one of a multitude of processes. A dead or poorly functioning mitochondria in a cell can disrupt or slow down neuronal firing. Mental illness is largely due to imbalances in the neuronal processes of our natural brain chemistry. A poorly working or dead mitochondria can prevent certain natural functions from working, causing symptoms like hormonal imbalance.

Untreated, the damage from free radicals accumulates with age. They are the cause of many degenerative diseases, and are associated with many of the signs of the aging process.

Antioxidants are molecules loaded with extra free electrons. When we have enough antioxidants the free radicals get their electrons from the antioxidants in our body, rather than stealing them from our cells.

The body is naturally built to handle free radicals. Antioxidants are found in the vitamins A, C and E in the fruits and vegetables we eat. However even eating the 5-8 recommended servings a day, or using supplements still often does not do enough to combat the massive free radical damage.

Antioxidants from Vitamins E, C, and A actually pale in comparison to the phytonutrient antioxidants such as those found in red wine and blueberries. This is the reason for the French paradox, why it is being recommended to drink wine, eat chocolate, and drink green tea. They provide better sources of antioxidants.

There is an even better source: the newly discovered acai berry, of the Brazilian rainforest. It provides antioxidants in strengths 33 times more powerful than red wine. It floods the body with massive amounts of antioxidants and other essential nutrients. The acai berry is the number one ingredient for anti-aging recommended by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, in his book the Perricone Promise.

The acai berry can be best added to the diet in liquid form. A small dose of several ounces daily will flood the body with the vital antioxidants it needs. The acai berry is the best way to add to your diet the most powerful antioxidants combating free radical damage.

How To Burn Fat

The REAL Reason Apple Cider Vinegar Works for Losing Weight - MUST WATCH!

Is DASH Eating Right for You?

The DASH Eating Plan was created to help individuals lower or manage their blood pressure without the use of pharmaceuticals. This eating style has also been shown to help lower blood cholesterol levels, decrease inflammation, and improve insulin sensitivity. Over time, these dietary changes can help to lower one's risk of developing stroke or heart disease.
DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The eating plan emphasizes nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, low-fat/non-fat dairy products, nuts, seeds, and legumes, and less lean meats, poultry, and fish. DASH is effective because it provides good amounts of essential nutrients such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium - nutrients that have an impact on blood pressure.
Note there are additional lifestyle changes you can make to lower your blood pressure and improve heart health. Some of the changes include not smoking, moderate alcohol intake, and regular exercise.
A 2017 research article published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology compared a low-sodium diet versus a high-sodium diet and its effects on baseline blood pressure. The researchers took 412 adults with pre- or Stage 1 hypertension and instructed them to consume either a control diet or the DASH diet. At the end of the study, there were significant decreases in systolic blood pressure for participants following a low-sodium DASH eating plan. In other words, the less sodium a person consumed, the better their blood pressure level.
The foods recommended as part of the DASH eating plan are naturally low in sodium which is why it can be so effective at lowering blood pressure. The research article mentioned above is one of many demonstrating the benefits of this way of eating.
With a little bit of creativity, you can make plenty of satisfyingly delicious meals abundant with fiber, vitamins, minerals, protein, and heart-healthy fats on the DASH diet. Making small, gradual changes can help build a strong foundation of healthy living.
If you aren't sure where to begin, here are 4 tips for getting started:
1. Try new recipes - The internet is a great place to get inspired and find some yummy new recipes to try. With time and experimentation you'll surely find many recipes you love.
2. Eat your fruits and veggies - The plant kingdom of foods is brimming with color, flavor, and enjoyment. You can find creative ways to use fruits and veggies in your meals. Try making smoothies, soups, stew, veggie burgers, and more!
3. Meal planning and meal prep - It helps to sit down at the start of the week and figure out what you would like to eat. Making this practice a habit can help to keep you organized and save time (which is useful if you have a hectic life!). Preparing meals ahead of time by a few days or even the night before is another way to help support you in this new journey.
4. Get moving - Exercise is important for your body to be healthy and can help to lower blood pressure. Find a physical activity you enjoy so you'll feel more motivated to stick with it. Exercising moderately for just 30 minutes each day can be beneficial.
Now that the knowledge is in your hands, you have the power to make a change in your life for optimal health. Move at a pace that works for you, practice self-love, and enjoy the experience. Keep an open mind as you try new foods and recipes; you never know what you'll discover!

5 easy-to-remember rules to jumpstart weight loss

How's Your New Health Plan Working?

The #1 resolution in the nutrition field - or maybe anywhere - is weight loss.
So how is your resolution going? Are you sticking with it no matter what? Are you up and down? Do you find yourself going in a completely different direction?
"Can't get out of bed! Send help or waffles. Just send waffles." - unknown
Why Do Resolutions Fail?
Most people fall off the Weight Loss Wagon for 2 reasons.
One is thinking of it as a Diet. Diet foods. Diet mentality. Diet portions. Lots of suffering.
"Today I bought a doughnut without sprinkles. This diet thing is hard." - CoolFunnyQuotes.com
The other reason is food cravings. Cravings can - and do - sabotage our best efforts.
Cravings are interesting. They cause people - many people - to think psychologically, or emotionally. To pontificate about food behaviors. What's "missing" in your life? Where do you need to add 'sweetness?' What's "eating" you?
My field is psychoactive nutrition, so I think chemically.
I know cravings aren't necessarily about stress, or emotions, or boredom. They're about brain chem. And my plan for helping you stick with your resolution doesn't involve crawling in your head and rummaging around in there.
It involves helping you deal with - that means get rid of - your cravings.
"I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food." - W.C. Fields
Steps for Changing Food Cravings
• Check with your doctor to be sure this strategy is appropriate for you.
• Get yourself a bottle of liquid B-complex. It should be ALL the B vitamins, not just B-12.
• If and when you have a craving, take 1 teaspoon (or whatever the dosage on the bottle says).
• Give it a few minutes to take effect.
Liquid B-complex will work; it's very effective.
The other part of this is to stop thinking you're on a diet. Diets are temporary. We can't wait to go off the diet so we can eat the things we've been denying ourselves.
What to Do Instead
• Eat real food.
• Eat protein with everything.
• Allow the protein to moderate your portion sizes. It will.
• Exercise 4-5 days a week.
Keep this going, keep eating real foods, and you'll be able to say, as Julia Child did,
"The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook."
If you'd like help with weight loss or a health problem, perfect. That's what I do. Just visit http://www.LastResortNutrition.com and grab your free Empowered Eating Consult. Discover how easy it is to move from how you feel now to where you'd love to be!
